Action!
Artist Presentation and Screening at 8:00pm
“There is an odd contradiction when we make films. As makers we want to move our audiences but the traditional viewing model is designed for passivity. We expect the audience to remain in the dark, still & silent. Emerging technologies have made new forms of audience engagement possible – one in which the audience has to physically move in order to experience the work. For this evening's screening I'll discuss some of the artists who create hybrid works - melding documentary & fiction, film/video & live performance with audience participation either in the creation or viewing of the work. We'll look at the work of Peter Watkins, Bill T. Jones, Robert Kramer, Maryat Lee, Augusto Boal as well as some of my own work from traditional 35mm films to current interactive documentaries & live performative pieces.” - Ruth Sergel
