Join us Friday, November 6, at 7:00pm for the opening reception of Still/Moving: Works from the Gerald Mead Collection. This exhibition is on view from November 6 – December 5, with free public gallery hours Tuesday-Saturday, 12:00-5:00pm.

The moving image through film or video is inextricably linked to the history of art. A number of contemporary artists associated with Western New York have created work that either directly or indirectly relates to the moving image. These range from Cindy Sherman’s iconic “Untitled Film Still” series of photographs from the 1970s to Esther Neisen’s recent, meticulously crafted collages of insects constructed from segments of vintage filmstrips. Films and videos by makers such as Michael Bosworth, Lawrence Brose, Hollis Frampton and Jody LaFond have also been represented by individual still images they have created. This exhibition, selected from the extensive collection of noted Buffalo artist and educator Gerald Mead, provides a brief survey of work that bridges the gap between moving and still images.
