Performance is part of everyday life. Whether we are aware of it or not, we are performing. Now that our lives and personas are entangled with virtual spaces, it’s becoming increasingly important to understand, through making, what the creative and technological possibilities of performance could be. Participants of Saturday Cafe will learn to create, write, and produce performance art pieces for virtual space in a fun, supportive and challenging environment. This session will cover artistic and technical areas such as poetry, spoken word, video and sound production, graphics, and live streaming.
Students will meet and learn from artists, be exposed to contemporary and historical examples in the field of virtual performance, and have chances to share and discuss examples of their own choosing. Explore the boundaries of what’s real and what’s performed. Discuss issues related to safety and ethical considerations underlying each. Learn to unpack mediated performances by creating your own!
Indigenous people, people of color, women, 2SLGBQTIA+ individuals, and young artists who face systemic and structural barriers are highly encouraged to apply. We welcome questions regarding the types of access we can provide to youth with disabilities: please email Martina LaVallo Education Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org
