Squeaky@x0
February 26, 2016– June 4, 2016
Beginning February 27th and running through June 4th, Squeaky Wheel’s gallery will host Squeaky@x0 a breakneck series of 14 mini-exhibitions, each installed a week at a time. Selected from the work that was included in our 30th Anniversary Exhibition at the Burchfield Penney Museum, Squeaky@x0 features over 50 different moving-image artists, each exhibit showcasing the rhymes and counter-points between artists, ideas, and histories that have coursed through our organization. The opportunities and altered processes afforded by the video camera and digital workflows, handheld experiments with celluloid, critiques of both the technology and industry of television, narratives both earnest and campy, tinkerers and experimenters, histories of our city’s individuals, institutions, and moments of outrage and unity are only some of the themes captured by this series. The emerging portrait is predictably multi-faceted; they are indicative of their place in media history, and the place of Squeaky Wheel within the history of media art spaces and the history of Buffalo. – ES
On May 13th-15th the exhibit will converge with a multi-day, multi-media conference on Squeaky Wheel, featuring a number of artists, community members, and visiting scholars.
This page will be updated throughout the exhibition. Check back to see further details of our schedule, short essays, and more!
